Since I'd always viewed myself as a pretty good driver who had a lack of understanding of special awareness and thus got somewhat stuck when it came to parking, I was quite intrigued when I found the Internet game Park My Car on my favorite addicting games website. In all the driving lessons I had taken when I was younger and the tutorials my boyfriend tried to give me, my problems in the area of parking had never lessened. So the time was ripe for me to - in the comfort of my own home behind a virtual wheel - beef up my parking skills.
It looked easy enough and pretty much like driving, with the cursors acting as the wheel in a way. Cursor up was accelerate; down, reverse; right turns the front wheels to the right and left makes the front wheels go left. If anyone gets in your way or irritates you, you just press on the spacebar to honk your horn. Sounded easy enough.
Except it wasn't! I was playing the game for all of about 3 seconds when I crashed in to the curb! I had reversed instead of gone forward and I knew exactly what my boyfriend would have to say about that! A screen shouting out LEVEL FAILED! Try again? was beaming me for an answer so I felt I had to have another go. But then this time it was about 20 seconds before the same thing happened and I heard that awful crash! This time I had gone the right way but crashed into the other end! I had to drive a little and park and it was taking me a while to get the hang of it.
Well, 3rd time lucky they say so I was up for another go of Park My Car. This time I managed to get into the space, but because I was facing the wrong way and was having trouble maneuvering the back of the car, I crashed in to another car! I had a few more goes and things did get a bit better but I can see I still have a long way to go before I win any parking awards and I do feel that Park My Car has taught me to be a bit more cautious on the roads now too.
